Welcome to the Quality in Study Support and Extended Services National Database
The aim of QiSS is to support the effective delivery of Quality Assured extended learning opportunities for children and young people. Study support is now seen as an initiative of proven effectiveness in raising standards of pupil attainment and increasing pupil motivation. “To improve young people’s motivation, build their self esteem and help them to become more effective learners. Above all it aims to raise achievement.” Extended Learning/Study Support programmes are regarded as one of the most effective means through which standards of achievement can be raised and wider needs met to encompass the five outcomes of ECM.
Research shows that all children and young people can benefit from participating in Extended Learning/Study Support programmes but the most disadvantaged can benefit most because it is through the quality learning opportunities outside of lessons that individual needs can be more fully met, motivation improved and horizons broadened. Schools that have high quality, well attended Extended Learning/Study Support programmes, are significantly enhancing the ways in which personalised learning is delivered to all children and young people.
Quality in Study Support and Extended Services aims and objectives are:
- Maintain and raise the quality of study support provision for children and young people
- To provide ongoing guidance and critical friendship for schools, local authorities and other educational organisations who aim to raise student’s achievement and academic attainment
- Support the strategic development of study support and extended services provision
- Raise awareness of the three quality standards levels for study support and extended services
- Provide impact measuring tools to support the evaluation of the effectiveness of study support provision
- Provide CPD for practitioners and the wider workforce working in the field of study support
